Lyle/Pacelli and LeRoy-Ostrander came into Tuesday night's Southeast Conference girls' basketball game looking for something: a win. Behind a strong outing by junior forward Louise Mudra, Lyle/Pacelli came out victorious with an impressive 72-44 win over the visiting Cardinals at Pacelli High School.

Lyle/Pacelli (1-6, 1-3) stuck to the basics Tuesday night. Limited turnovers and numerous rebounds, both offensive and defensive, helped L/P to overcome a rough season start and gain confidence as they head into this weekend's tournament in Randolph.

Big scoring runs were not a factor in Tuesday night's game. Neither team went on a run of more than seven points. LeRoy-Ostrander's shots did not fall and they netted only 44 percent (11-25) at the free-throw line. Lyle/Pacelli maintained control the entire game and never let the Cardinals gain any momentum.

"We had a lot of confidence from the last game against Blooming Prairie," said L/P coach Craig Smith. "This game will help us carry momentum over to Randolph on Thursday."

Mudra's 28 points, along with her 14 rebounds, permitted Lyle/Pacelli to relax and play more fundamental basketball.

"Our shooting was good tonight," Mudra said. "Our coach told us we were good shooters, and now we believe him."

Anna Hebrink was Lyle/Pacelli's second-leading scorer with 22 points. The eighth-grader shot well from the perimeter in making four three-pointers.

Vicky Nolt was LeRoy-Ostrander's (0-7, 0-4) leading scorer with 25 points. The Cardinals host Houston Friday night in LeRoy.

Wolverines win over GM

Grand Meadow had its chances but could not convert in a 37-25 SEC loss at home to Glenville-Emmons Tuesday night.

Eight different players scored for the Superlarks, but none of them accounted for more than five points. Jenna Brackey led Glenville-Emmons with 11 points.

"We could not hit shots, we had opportunities," said GM coach Mike Norton.

Grand Meadow (1-5, 1-3) was 8-35 from the field for a 23 percent performance. The Superlarks did outrebound G-E, 44-32.

The Larks host Spring Grove Friday in their final game before the break.
