Key forfeits in four weight groups gave the Pine Island Panthers 24 of their 50 points on Friday night, which allowed the home team to come away with the victory over Hiawatha Valley League foe Hayfield.

The Vikings, who won five of the 10 matches that were wrestled -- four from pins -- were unable to make up for the vacancies in the unmanned weight groups. The Vikings had solid showings from Zach Emke (103), Steve Emerick (125), Shane Masching (130), and Carl Bamlet (275), who all got pins for their first wrestling matches of the new season. Danny West wrestled to a 4-2 decision over Pine Island's Chad Robertson at 119 pounds.

In the five matches won by the Panthers, three were from pins and two from major decisions.

Hayfield will take an 0--1 HVL record to Waseca on Saturday to wrestle the Blue Jays.
