Superlark boys drop below .500

The Grand Meadow boys' basketball team was hoping to finish Friday night's game with Spring Grove with a winning team record, but some miscues late in the fourth quarter conspired to bring that dream to an end as GM lost to the Lions, 64-57.
The Superlarks kept the pressure on Spring Grove for three quarters and whittled a nine-point deficit down to four points by the time the whistle sounded to end the third.
Grand Meadow kept the score even throughout the first eight minutes of the contest, trailing by only one basket by the end of the first quarter. The Superlarks battled back to take a 24-22 advantage into the half, but saw the lead slip away in the third quarter.
The game remained close during the last eight minutes of the match, but Kyle Breitbarth, who was one of two Superlarks to foul out in the game, picked up his fifth personal foul of the game with four minutes left.
Breitbarth was second in team scoring for the night with 14 points, six of which came from behind the three-point boundary.
GM closed to within four points (56-50) with 30 seconds left, but failed to capitalize on a series of free-throws at the end that sealed its fate.
The Superlarks dropped to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in the Southeast Conference. They will host a non-conference match up at home on Monday against the 6-4 Southland Rebels. Tip-off will be at 7:30 p.m.
