Hayfield and Blooming Prairie tied, and both teams beat LeCenter in a non-conference triangular Tuesday night in Hayfield.

The host Vikings had the upper hand as far as scoring goes, beating LeCenter 51-28. A battered and bruised Blooming Prairie squad won 34-32 over LeCenter, and the Blossoms fought to a tie with Hayfield, 36-36.

Both LeCenter and Blooming Prairie forfeited at two weights, and each team won five head-to-head matches. The Blossoms made up for lost points with three major decisions in the swing matches.

Tim Andrews won a 10-2 decision at 171 pounds, and Jeremiah Johnson got a 11-3 major at 103. Grant Johnson, wrestling up a weight class to 125, won a 9-1 decision.

"There's your three extra bonus points," said Blooming coach David Pfiefer. "We were both hurting health-wise, so it was just a matter of who survived."

Three were missing from the Blossoms' lineup -- Billy Lindquist, Brad Klemmensen and Shelby Parks -- but teammates made the moves to pick up one win and a tie.

Blossoms seventh-grader Cody Poshusta-Schmitz won his first varsity match with a fall, pinning his 112-pound opponent Joey Grasser in 3:25.

Third-ranked Jay Salinas lost a 4-3 decision to second-rated Tony Miller at 215 as the highlight match of the night.

Hayfield handled LeCenter with veritable ease, getting four wins by pin from Bruce Erath (135), Brad Evans (171), Zach Ehmke (103) and top-ranked Shane Masching (125). Both teams forfeited three times.

Blooming Prairie made up for three forfeits to Hayfield with three wins by fall. The Vikings won a pair of matches with pins but returned the points with two forfeits. Pat Wallace (160), Reese Hageman (275) and Luke Nelson (130) won by fall for BPHS, while George Evjen (145) and Masching (130) posted pins for Hayfield.

"We're not healthy, so a win and a tie is good with me," Pfiefer said.

The Blossoms finish the regular season at home Thursday against Alden-Conger.

Blooming Prairie (18-5-2) will have an entire day of team sections next Saturday, Feb. 15, at Triton High School in Dodge Center.
