Marcella L. Nesbitt, 76

Marcella L. Nesbitt, age 76, of Austin, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at the Austin Medical Center.

She was born May 6, 1926, in Hayfield, Minn., to A. Gerhard and Claudine (Kyllo) Leckness. Marcella grew up in Hayfield. She graduated from Austin High School in 1944. She moved to Washington, D.C. where she was a secretary for the Naval Command at the Pentagon.

On May 22, 1949, she married Lynn Marvin Nesbitt in Washington, D.C. Together they had five children. After his death in 1967, Marcella and her children moved to Austin, Minn. She was a secretary for the Austin Public Schools for many years until her retirement. After her retirement she spent winters in Apache Junction, Ariz.

She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and Kitchen Band at the Cedars.

She enjoyed bingo, traveling and spending time with friends and family.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 13, 2003, at 1 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roberta Flood officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Austin on Saturday, March 15, 2003, at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church for one hour before the service. The organist will be Neal Erickson and the soloist will be Kaye Perry. Casket Bearers will be Gene Leckness, Eli Mathias, Lynn Nesbitt, Dave Folken, Mike Arens and Jeramie Kramer.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Marcia Nesbitt of Milwaukee, Wis., Karen and Gary Kramer of San Antonio, Texas, Ruth and Bob Arens of Austin, Minn.; sons and daughter-in-law, Jack and Debbie Nesbitt of Denver, Colo., Bob Nesbitt of Plymouth, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Nancy Leckness of Hayfield, Minn.; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Bob Bates of Little Falls, Minn.; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Lila Staley; and special friend, Paul King.

L. Maxine Garriott, 89

L. Maxine Garriott, 89, formerly of the Austin and Blooming Prairie areas, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at a nursing home in San Rafael, Calif.

She was born Sept. 26, 1913, in Austin, to Sam and Ella (Josephson) Seavey of rural Blooming Prairie.

Survivors include daughter, Bernice Rehnen, Larkspur, Calif.; sister, Gladys Peterson, Blooming Prairie; cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlo; son-in-law, Jim Rehnen; brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Opal Seavey; and brother-in-law, Marion Peterson.

Service: Memorial services will be at a later date.

Interment: In Tracy, Calif.

Shirley J. Stilwell, 81

Shirley J. Stilwell, 81, of Austin, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at Sacred Heart Care Center.

She was born Jan. 30, 1922, on the Dugstad Farm in Bloomfield Center, to Lewis and Lillian (Halling) Dugstad.

On Oct. 2, 1971, she married Donald R. Stilwell Sr. at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Shirley was a homemaker and a country school teacher.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Stilwell Sr., Austin; children, Don Jr. (Karen) Stilwell, Austin; Barbara (Gary) Heimer, Woodbury; David (Cheryl) Stilwell, Bloomington; Mary Lou Johnson, Stewartville; Patty (Jim) Urlick, Austin; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Earl (Leota) Dugstad, Lake City; Lloyd (Jeanne) Dugstad, Albert Lea; sisters, Goldie (George) Shaw, Ventura, Calif.; Carol Jean Cadwell, Bemidji.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sherry; sister, Doris.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2003, at the funeral home and Friday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Ron Barnett officiating. Casket bearers will be Deryk Stilwell, Sara Moe, Anne Bergersen, Cathy Cunningham, Mary Elaine Paulson, Teresa Shaw, Matthew Stilwell, Lisa Wolf, Kevin Johnson, Joseph Urlick, Fred Baldwin, Jeff Stilwell, Mark Stilwell, Ryan Stilwell, Michael Urlick, Ryan Urlick and Bryan Dugstad.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery.
