LeRoy H. Noterman, 93

LeRoy Hubert Noterman, 93, of Hayfield, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester.

He was born June 10, 1909, to Thomas and Clara (LaTour) Noterman in Scott County. He was raised in western Minnesota and his family later moved to Adams.

On May 9, 1937, he married Verna Elizabeth Weiss in Woodstock. In the 1940's LeRoy and Verna moved to the Hayfield area.

LeRoy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a member of the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus, and a retired farmer. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, cards and traveling.

Survivors include daughters, Dianne (Bernard) Kubicek, Pine Island; Jo Ann (Glenn) Eichmann, Hibbing; son, Roger (Ethel) Noterman, Hayfield; five grandchildren; two great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters and five brothers.

Visitation: 9 to 10:15 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2003, at the funeral home.

Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hayfield with Rev. Richard Dernek officiating.

Interment: Fairview Cemetery, Hayfield.

Funeral Home: Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, Hayfield.

Sister Quentin McShane, 93

Sister Quentin McShane, 93, of Rochester, died March 6, 2003, at Assisi Heights, Rochester.

Sister Quentin McShane, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, who served as an educator and pharmacist, was born Carmela Eileen McShane on Aug. 20, 1909, in Austin. She entered the Franciscan Congregation in 1926 from St. Augustine Parish. She made profession of vows in 1928 and began her teaching ministry at St. Juliana Parish, Chicago. She also taught in Ashland, Ky., Portsmouth, Ohio and Watertown, S.D. From 1942 to 1977, she ministered as pharmacist at Saint Marys Hospital, Rochester. After leaving the pharmacy in 1979, she worked as a volunteer in the hospital's cashier office and at the information desk. Sister Quentin celebrated her diamond jubilee in 1988 and retired to Assisi Heights in 1993.

She is survived by her Franciscan Community.

Service: 11 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Violet L. Slowinski, 74

Violet Lucille Slowinski, age 74, of Austin, died on Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Sacred Heart Nursing Home.

She was born June 4, 1928, in Brocket, N.D. to Leo and Mary (Thompson) Wencl. She was united in marriage to Frank Slowinski on Sept. 17, 1949, at Saint Augustine Church in Austin, Minn.

Violet worked in the Dry Sausage Area at Hormel Foods Inc. in the early 1950's. Violet then stayed at home raising three children, being a devoted mother and loving wife.

She loved cooking, baking, gardening, bird watching, crocheting, knitting, sewing and bowling.

Two of her favorite pastimes allowed her to show off her artistic side. She baked and decorated wedding cakes for family and friends. She also dazzled Austin with her arts and crafts creativity, making refrigerator magnets, applique, holiday decorations, ceramics, as well as hundreds of other knick knacks.

She was part of a championship bowling team in the 1960's, continuing it as a lifelong hobby. She loved traveling and sightseeing, especially family vacations.

Violet reentered the workforce in the 1980's, working for Saint Olaf Hospital in the dietary/ kitchen area. She participated in her unit activities at Queen of Angels Church, where she was a longtime member.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years of marriage: Frank; two daughters: Deborah (John) Uecker of Austin and Lynn (Chris) Ford of Rochester; one son: Brian (Ines) Slowinski of Rochester; six grandchildren; three sisters: Lillian Ball of Austin, Evelyn Culbert of Austin and Mayme Smith of Seattle, Wash.; one brother: Lawrence Wencl of Blooming Prairie.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father: Mary and Leo; brothers: Richard, James, William, and Harold; sisters: Martha and Hazel.

Visitation: Was 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2003, with a 4 p.m. CCW Rosary and a 6:30 p.m. Wake Service and noon to 1 p.m. Friday, March 7 at Mayer Funeral Home.

Service: 1:30 p.m. Friday at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin with Father William Becker and Father Paul Nelson officiating.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery.
