Carl J. Lang, 94
Carl J. Lang, 94, of Mason City, Iowa, died Saturday, April 26, 2003, at his home.
He was born Sept. 1, 1908, to John and Lena (Lex) Lang.
On June 6, 1939, he married Laura K. Hemann in Albert Lea.
Carl enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, gardening and canning.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Bette Lang, Winnsboro, Texas; Dean Lang, Mason City, Iowa; Duane and Helen Lang, Marshalltown, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, daughter Theresa, five sisters and one brother.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, April 30, 2003, with a 7 p.m. Rosary service at the funeral home.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams, Mason City, Iowa, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating.
Interment: Elmwood Cemetery.

Joseph F. Cerny, 89
Joseph F. Cerny, 89, of Austin, died Friday, April 18, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester.
He was born July 16, 1913, in Lansing Township, to Anthon and Jesse (Christianson) Cerny.
A lifelong Austin resident, Joe was a heavy equipment operator for many years.
He enjoyed reading, watching television and spending time with friends and relatives.
Survivors include daughters, Janice (Thomas) McPhillips, Rockford, Ill.; Kathleen (Richard) Kanzenbach, Wells; Joan Cerny, Rockford, Ill.; Carol (James) Hester, Bellflower, Calif.; sons, Robert (Diane) Cerny, Monticello, Iowa; Andy (Kris) Cerny, Rockford, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Dorothy Winn, Blooming Prairie; Marian (Adam) Allas, Lansing; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steve; two sisters, one brother and two grandchildren.
Visitation: One hour before the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2003, at the funeral home with the Rev. Dennis Tamke officiating.

Helen C. Johnson, 90
Helen Catherine Johnson, 90, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at Infinia, Owatonna.
She was born July 8, 1912, in Menburn, Iowa, to P.J. and Susie (McMullen) Ellis.
On Sept. 27, 1933, she married Raymond Johnson in Owatonna. The couple farmed together until retiring in 1976 and moving into Owatonna. They had seven children. Helen took care of her husband for two and a half years prior to his death in 1993.
She volunteered at Cedarview Nursing Home for a short time, was a member of The Associated Church and a former member of First Lutheran Church, Blooming Prairie.
She enjoyed spending time with family, gardening and canning with her husband, word find puzzles and playing solitaire.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Helen Johnson, Albert Lea; Darel and Betty Johnson, Waseca; Larry and Shirley Johnson, Owatonna; Richard and Jonna Johnson, Claremont; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Donald Ingvaldson, Owatonna; Linda and Albert "Cob" Kath, Waseca; Suzanne and Sheldon Schmidt, Waseca; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Seavey, Austin; brother, Clifford Ellis, Blooming Prairie; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and one sister.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2003, at the funeral home and Friday at the church for one hour before the service.
Service: 11 a.m. Friday at The Associated Church in Owatonna with the Rev. Ronald D. Wilson officiating.
Interment: First Lutheran Cemetery, Blooming Prairie.
