The LeRoy-Ostrander/Grand Meadow baseball team is positioning itself for a late run at a share of the Southeast Conference title. Thanks to Jake "Lefty" Rowe's no-hitter Tuesday, LOGM notched its second blowout in as many days, 9-0 over Medford.

"Our defense isn't stellar by any means," said LOGM head coach Dan Dow, "but we made the plays behind Jake when we needed to."

Fronting a team with only nine available players, Rowe gave them all they would need, fanning seven and walking six for his first career no-hitter.

LOGM had the bats going anyway, as Chad Doocy was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs. John Hanks went 2-4 with two runs and Adam Schlee 2-for-3 with a run scored.

After starting out the season 1-3, LOGM's record now stands at 8-5 on the year. Depending on the outcome of Thursday's game between Lyle/Pacelli and Glenville-Emmons, who have three and two conference losses, respectively, LOGM's matchup with G-E on Friday could very well have title implications.

Blossom baseball team takes out frustrations

The Blooming Prairie baseball team took out its hitting frustrations on Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Tuesday, unleashing a 17-5 assault on their hapless hosts after being shutout the day before by NRHEG.

David Kramer pitched the whole game for BP, giving up two earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts. He also got the scoring underway with a three-run home run in the first inning, one of his two hits and three runs scored.

Among the many hitting stars, Kraig Olson was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Andy Helken went 2-4 and Brayton Johnson 3-3, with both driving in three runs and scoring two as well.

Aside from their 14 hits, the Blossoms also drew seven walks on the afternoon.

BP is now 13-5 on the season and 8-4 in the Gopher Conference. They conclude their regular season Thursday at home against United South Central.

Blossom softball struggles against USC pitching

In their final regular season game Tuesday, the Blooming Prairie softball team was victimized by some quality United South Central pitching, as the visiting Blossoms were shut out 4-0 in Gopher Conference play.

BP was limited to four hits in the game, all singles. Amanda Schlund went 2-for-3 to lead the Blossom batters.

BPHS starter Emily Wencl allowed just three hits but was uncharacteristically wild, walking seven. Only two of her four runs allowed were earned, and she struck out five in her five innings of work.

BP finishes the season at 7-9 overall and 5-7 in the conference. They begin sub-section play as the No. 2 seed Thursday at Todd Park against seventh-seeded Medford, a team they defeated 10-5 in the first game.
