Richard L. Terry, 83

Richard L. Terry, age 83, of Austin, died Saturday, May 24, 2003, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Dick was born Aug. 15, 1919, in Austin, Minn., to Cash and Bessie (Thomson) Terry.

He graduated from Austin Central High School in 1937, then went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945.

He married Shirley Swenson in San Diego, Calif. on July 12, 1942, and together they had two children.

Dick worked at Hormel for 43 years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, the American Legion, and the Elks.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and Thursday at the church one hour before the service. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 29, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. at First Congregational Church with the Rev. James Peck officiating.

He is survived by daughter: Pamela Terry of Austin, Minn.; son and daughter-in-law: Philip and Harriet Terry of St. Cloud, Minn.; grandsons: Adam, Jay and Joel Terry of St. Cloud, Minn.; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Shirley Terry; parents; and sisters: Helen Kral, Betty Robb and Jean Stephenson.

Edwin R. Kuivala, 75

Memorial services for Edwin "Ed" Kuivala will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at his home, 53809 184th St. (Fourth Street SE), Austin. The Rev. James Mikkelson will officiate. Relatives and friends are invited.

Ed passed away Saturday, May 24, at his home with non cell lung cancer. He was 75.

He was born March 10, 1928, in Minneapolis, to Hjalmer Kuivala and Hilja Rasanen. He attended North High School in Minneapolis and business college for accounting. Ed served in World War II.

He married Ilona Aallo and had one daughter. They lived in Buffalo, Minn. In 1984, Ed married Nettie Schmidt.

Ed was a plumbing estimator and worked for Grinel and SPS for many years. When he retired in 1993, he and Nettie moved to Austin. Ed then worked for Pinkerton Security for Hormel until February 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Nettie; one daughter, April (Bill) Lindgren; stepsons, Steven B. (Cathy) Schmidt, Sunfish, Minn.; Fred (Pixie) Schmidt, Austin; Donald Schmidt, Austin; stepdaughters, Helen M. (Dick) Lee and Victoria Helland, Emmons, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents.

Leeland D. Wiechmann, 58

Leeland Dale Wiechmann, 58, of Stewartville, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at his home of a heart attack.

He was born June 12, 1944, in Rochester. He graduated in 1962 from John Marshall High School, Rochester, then attended Rochester Community College.

On Aug. 2, 1964, he married Charlotte Ann Hoffmann in Rochester. They lived in Rochester, then in Waterloo, Iowa until 1977, when they moved to Stewartville.

Leeland was maintenance supervisor at Rochester Comm. & Tech. College.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, were he held various church offices, most recently being an elder. He was also a member of the church choir.

Leeland enjoyed antiquing, golfing, fishing and spending time with his grandsons.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; daughter, Christine (Rob) Worth, Appleton, Wis.; two grandsons; brothers, Dennis (Kitty) Wiechmann, Austin; Ronald (Marge) Wiechmann, Wyoming, Minn.; Carter (Helen) Wiechmann, Lubbock, Texas; sisters, Cordelia (Chuck) Heroff, Stewartville; Candace (Ray) Weis, Chatfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and until 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, then for one hour before the service at the church.

Service: 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville with the Rev. Lyle Fritsch officiating.

Interment: Grandview Memorial Gardens, Rochester.

Debra K. Grant, 52

Debra Kay Grant, 52, of Holmen, Wis., formerly of Stewartville, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester from complications of a heart condition.

She was born May 5, 1951, in Lansing, where she grew up. She attended Austin Schools and graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester.

On June 5, 1971, she marred Wesley Grant in Brownsdale. They moved to Stewartville in 1974.

Debra nursed at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin and, for the past 17 years, at the Stewartville Care Center. Debra and Wesley had moved to Holmen, Wis. this past month, where Debra was employed at the Le Crescent, Minn. Care Center.

She enjoyed golfing and bowling.

Survivors include her husband, Wesley; mother, Beulah Luthe, Austin; daughter, Teresa (Dale) Compton, Mankato; son, Michael Grant, Holmen, Wis.; three grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Delaine) Luthe, Austin; Robert (Rita) Luthe, Brownsdale; sisters, Kathy (Harold) Paine, Lansing; Barb (Paul) Miller, Hayward; Patty (Cliff) Bailey, Lansing; Sandy (Carl) Davis, Austin.

She was preceded in death by her father, a brother and a granddaughter.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, then for one hour before the service at the church.

Service: 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville with the Rev. John Fritsch officiating.

Interment: Greenwood Cemetery, Brownsdale.
