In Big Nine Conference quadrangulars Tuesday, the Austin boys' track team came in first at John Marshall while the girls placed second at Albert Lea.
"A fantastic meet for the young men," said AHS head coach Tony Einertson. "The team is starting to come off some of the mid-season injuries and is starting to perform at a higher level."
Evan Sorenson won three events for the Packers on the afternoon, sweeping the 110- and 300-meter hurdles and the pole vault.
David Larson and Mark Cavanaugh also garnered first-place finishes in the long jump and the 400 meters, respectively.
In the distance events, Carl Bauer took nearly 13 seconds off of his time in winning the 3,200, breaking 10 minutes for the first time.
For the girls, Owatonna put together a dominating performance, winning 13 of 18 events.
The sprint relays were once again a strong point for the Packers, with the 4×200 and 4×400 teams picking up their lone first-place finishes. The 400 team of Lisa Bue, Theresa Hirsch, Jenny Tucker, and Emily Johnson took four seconds off of their previous best time of the season.
Austin also had three runner-up finishes on the afternoon. Hirsch posted her best time of the season in the 100, while Natalie Bowers was second in the 3,200. Johnson was the runner-up in the 200 meters with a career-best time.
The next action for both teams will be the Big Nine Conference meet next Friday, May 23rd. Austin will be hosting the event this year at Wescott Field.
