Austin High School wrestler T.J. Parlin participated in the National Team Duals in Greco-Roman wrestling in Enid, Okla., helping the Minnesota squad pin down the national title nearly one month ago. Parlin resumes competition today in the National Individual Tournament at Fargo, N.D., which runs through Saturday.
Parlin, a senior-to-be at Pacelli High School, won the 130-pound Class AAA Minnesota state wrestling title last winter, capping his junior season with a 38-2 record.
This summer, Parlin went 4-4 in helping the Minnesota state squad on its way to the national title. He was 0-2 wrestling at 130 pounds, competing at 135 in the rest of his matches. Minnesota defeated Michigan, 35-26, in the national title dual. In that meet, Parlin lost a 7-1 decision to Tim Ebenhoeh, Michigan's Lower Penninsula Division 4 High School state champion that finished his junior year with a 58-1 record.
During the tournament, Parlin paired up against wrestlers from Wisconsin, Missouri, Texas, Oklahome, Arizona, Florida, California and Michigan. Overall, 26 teams competed in the Greco-Roman Junior National Duals.
Minnesota was the top-seeded team heading into the tournament, getting revenge in the finals after falling to Michigan in 2002 championships.
