Packer boys golfers take second

The Packers boys golf team settled for second place in the Section 1AAA meet, but one of it’s golfers seized first place Tuesday at Bellwood Oaks in Hastings.
Drew Osier, a junior, shot a 75 on Tuesday for a two-day score of a 147 (one over par) which made him the Section 1AAA medalist. It will be Osier’s first trip to state.
Osier will compete in the state meet Tuesday at Bunker Hills, which is in Coon Rapids, Minn.
“It’s tough to get to state. It’s a 72-man tourney and you gotta be in the top five unless your team advances,” Austin head coach Will Pazurek said. “Drew’s been playing solid golf and we couldn’t be happier for him. I think he’ll do real well at state.”
As a team, the Packers finished with a two day score of 627, while Lakeville North took first with a 613. North will now advance to state as a team, but it only outshot Austin by two strokes Tuesday after taking a 12 stroke lead last week.
“We didn’t too bad,” Pazurek said. “And what’s so nice is that all of these guys are underclassmen and they’ll be back next year. They’ll put in a lot of work over the summer and I’m expecting big things out of them.”
Nick Taber of Austin took 12th overall with a two-day score of 158. Taber, a sophomore, shot a 78 Tuesday.
“He’ll be one to watch next year,” Pazurek said. “There’s a lot of seniors graduating from our section and he’ll get even better.”
Osier was one of just two juniors to advance to state individually and all of the rest of the qualifiers are seniors.
