Public should be interested in local elections, too

The primary season ends today in the race for the presidential nomination, as Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton give it one last push in South Dakota and Montana.
Though today’s primaries won’t decide the Democratic nomination, it may mean a flooding of support from superdelegates for Obama.
Whether you back Obama or Clinton, presumptive Republican candidate John McCain or an independent contender, this highly competitive election has brought voting and elections into the forefront of American’s priorities.
Now, more than ever, the public is showing interest in elections: some will be heading to the polls who haven’t in years; others may have never checked a box on a ballot.
Many are growing tired of the persistent Obama versus Clinton debate, but it shows America is finally paying attention to who their leaders are and who they should be, and hopefully this interest continues through city, school, county and other local as well as statewide elections.
