Bail set for man charged with alleged cocaine sales

Bail for an Austin man was set at $1 million or $100,000 with conditions for charges stemming from alleged cocaine sales to a confidential police informant last April.

Sergio Arturo Ramos Aguilar, 28, has been charged with a single count of first-degree drug sale for taking part in two cocaine deals April 14 and April 18, according to the criminal complaint.

The complaint said Austin police met with the informant, who said the defendant had sell him two “eight-balls” of cocaine. The alleged purchase took place that day, and the complaint said Aguilar returned to his apartment with 3.5 ounces of cocaine after arriving there with two man in a van.

He sold the informant 6.6 grams that day.

A second purchase for 13.6 grams — about a 0.5 ounce — occurred April 18, the complaint said.

Aguilar was charged in July. He was convicted and sentenced July 2007 to five years probation, with one year stayed prison time, for a fifth-degree charge from 2006.

The maximum penalty for a first-degree drug charge is 40 years in prison and/or $1 million in fines.
