Mud Bog Races, swap meet at Hayfield festival

The 2008 Hayfield Hey Days celebration begins tonight.

The Miss Hey Days pageant is the first event. A Sunday afternoon parade followed by water wars are the last events.

In between, the organizers promise fun for everyone.

Tonight, a new Miss Hey Days will be crowned at the pageant beginning at 8 p.m. in the Hayfield High School gymnasium.

There will also be a teen dance 8 to 11 p.m. in the high school parking lot. Zealous Entertainment will provide the music.

The Friday schedule begins at 5 p.m. when the beer garden opens.

Bingo will be played in the American Legion Hall, beginning at 6 p.m.

Next To Nothing performs for the first of two street dances, 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Saturday’s schedule picks up the celebration pace.

A 5K family walk/run starts the scheduled at 8 a.m.

Softball and volleyball tournaments also get underway at 8 a.m. Saturday.

A car show and really will showcase the “sweetest rides” anywhere, beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing throughout the morning.

A swap meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday will tempt bargain hunters.

Kids games from noon to 5 p.m. will keep the youngsters occupied, while the oldsters try the horseshoe tournament at 1 p.m.

The Rochester Rough Riders will conduct the always popular Mud Bog Races, beginning at 1 p.m. It will be held rain or shine.

A kids pedal tractor pull starts at 2 p.m.

When suppertime arrives Saturday, the beer garden opens at 5 p.m. and it’s back to bingo at the American Legion Hall at 6 p.m.

Power Play is the featured band at the street dance, 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Guests must be 21 or older to enter. A 2008 Hey Days bracelet is required for admission to the street dances.

The celebration continues Sunday with the conclusion of the softball and volleyball tournaments, beginning at 8 a.m.

There will be a community worship service, beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday at Main Street Park. Worshipers are asked to bring lawn chairs or blankets.

Dinner will be served in the park, beginning at noon Sunday, by Uncle Mony’s.

Afterward, don’t move. The grand parade begins at 2 p.m. and will take units through the downtown area and passed Main Street Park.

Then, water wars between volunteer fire departments will wrap up the celebration.
