Ruthanna Payne, 78
Ruthanna Payne, 78, of Spring Valley died Early Sunday morning (July 6, 2008) at St Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Ruthanna Love was born June 6, 1930 in VanBuren, Ind., to Freemont Love and Inez (Boxell) Love. She attended and graduated from Liberty Center High School in Liberty Center, Ind., and was united in marriage to Verlis Payne on June 12, 1948 in Montpelier, Ind. In 1957 Verlis and Ruthanna moved to a farm in Beaver Township, Fillmore County where they still reside today.
She was very active in politics, serving as the past chairman of the Fillmore County DFL Party. She enjoyed gardening and cooking and was an avid reader of non-fiction.
She is survived by her husband, Verlis, rural Spring Valley; three daughters, Linda (Dave) Schwenn, Ostrander, Judy (Paul) Johnson and Cindy (Wayne) Frank, both of Preston, Minn.; three sons, Gerald (Barb) Payne, LeRoy, Don (Kathryn) Payne, LeRoy and Dale (Lori) Payne, Preston, 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Monte; and granddaughter, Holly.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ostrander with the Rev. Dennis Timmerman officiating. Burial will be in the Ostrander Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
