Law enforcement canines Tazer and son Ghost placed first and second at the Region 12 K-9 competition, which includes between 60 and 70 dogs from four neighboring states.
Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi said the two Belgian Malinois were ranked across five categories, such as agility, apprehension and article search, during the three-day event. Winners were announced Tuesday, she said.
Tazer, trained by Mower County Sgt. Jeff Ellis, is a five-time national champion. Police dog Ghost, who competed with Lt. Matt Holten, is his 2-year-old pup, Amazi said.
Tazer is scheduled for nationals this year, Amazi said, though she didn’t know whether Ghost would attend.
