Vermilyea files for county board

Dan Vermilyea, rural Austin, is the third candidate to file for Mower County Commissioner District No. 1.
Vermilyea’s filing ensures a September primary run-off election in District No. 1.
Tim Gabrielson, Austin businessman, was the first to file in the District No. 1 race.
Kathy Stutzman, Austin activist, was the second.
Vermilyea is a farmer who also works as the Steele County feedlot enforcement officer.
Richard P. Cummings, incumbent 1st District county commissioner, has announced he will not seek another term in office, ending a career of public service spanning 3 decades.
Meanwhile, Ray Tucker, incumbent 2nd District county commissioner, is the only candidate to file for that office on the county board.
Jon W. Erichson has filed for re-election to another term on the Mower County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Commissioners.
Erichson represents District No. 5.
The state primary election is Sept. 9; the state general election is Nov. 4.
The filing period ends July 15.
