A 17-year-old was allegedly assaulted by a young male Monday night while walking a trail at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center, according to Austin Police Chief Paul Philipp, who said the man was not seriously injured.
The chief said the alleged victim called police around 7:55 p.m. to report that he’d been punched in the head by a second individual after he’d seen the suspect and another man smoking marijuana.
The teen said he smelled marijuana smoke while walking one of the trails, and came upon two individuals, the chief said. After a short exchange of words, the suspect allegedly approached him and punched him in the head.
Philipp stated that police found a male matching the physical description given by the victim during their search of the property. During a photo line up, however, the 17-year-old did not positively identify the suspect. The 16-year-old chosen denied involvement.
The victim was not treated for serious injury, the chief said.
