Authorities have issued a warrant for a 22-year-old Austin man who allegedly failed to register as a predatory offender following his conviction for sexually assaulting an underage girl in August 2003.
Aurelio Gomez-Gonzalez, address unknown, has been charged with a single felony count of failure to register as a predatory offender. The crime carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
According to the criminal complaint, Austin police discovered that Gomez-Gonzalez was non-compliant with his registration requirements while reviewing the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension predatory offender Web site.
The complaint said the defendant also neglected to maintain contact with his Department of Corrections agent or notify the agency of an updated address.
His DOC agent went to his listed address March 13, and allegedly learned from his mother that he’d moved and left no forwarding address.
Austin police went to his the address as well — 1803 Third St. S.E. — and spoke with a woman who said Gomez-Gonzalez had moved four months earlier.
The defendant was convicted of third-degree criminal sexual conduct in March 2004 for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in his car. Following a probation violation hearing in November, he was sentenced to 18 months stayed prison time and 15 years probation. He is also prohibited from contact with anyone younger than 18 years old.
