Riverland volleyball team gets two sweeps

The Riverland volleyball team had some strong serving over the weekend when it beat Western Wisconsin Tech and Gogebic of Ironwood, Mich. Saturday at the Riverland Invite.
The Blue Devils (4-0 overall) swept both matches, beating Western Wisconsin Tech 25-13, 25-21, 25-22 and taking down Gogebic 25-11, 25-18, 25-23.
In the match against Western Wisconsin, the Blue Devils got a lift from their servers. In the first game, Krissy Schemmel, who had 31 assists and five aces on the day, served nine straight points; Brooke Monson served seven straight points in the second game, and Ashleigh Smith served nine straight in the last game.
“It was nice to get some rallies going and we had some great serving going on,” Riverland head coach Helen Jahr said.
Monson had 11 kills, three blocks, and five aces on the day. Ashley Lau had 12 kills and 16 digs, Tiffany Preuss had 10 kills, 16 assists, and 10 digs, and Katie Krogh had 10 kills, 20 digs, and four aces.
Riverland will host Ridgewater, which took second in Nationals last year, Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.
