The Lyle/Pacelli football team started strong and finished the job in a 41–0 win over Glenville/Emmons in Lyle Wednesday night.

The Athletics held G/E to -16 yards on the ground and forced six turnovers.

Our defense played well,” L/P head coach Mark Buntje said. “We were in their quarterback’s face and forced him to make some tough throws into our coverage.”

Those turnovers led to short scoring drives for L/P as the Athletics had three touch down drives that went less than 30 yards.

The Athletics (3-5 overall) also saw the return of senior back Nate Williamson, who left last week’s game with an injury. Williamson scored four touch downs, including two on passes.

“We threw a couple of screens to Nate to get him on the sideline where the field conditions weren’t so wet,” Buntje said.

Matt Buntje threw for 164 yards and three scores in the win. Brady Stier had 99 yards receiving and one score. Stier could’ve caught a couple of more TDs, but he lost his footing in the wet conditions.

“Brady played a great game tonight and Matt did a good job of making reads,” Buntje said. “Our line also did a good job of giving him time to throw.”

The No. 6 seeded Athletics will play at No. 3 Lanesboro Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Section 1 nine-man football tournament.
