The Mower County DFL Party has confirmed that 42nd vice president Walter Mondale will make an appearance with U.S. Senate hopeful Al Franken Saturday at the Austin Labor Center, the local DFL headquarters.

Franken and Mondale will speak at the Labor Center, 316 Fourth Ave. N.E., from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Mondale, who served from 1977 to 1981 under President Jimmy Carter, lost a bid for the presidency in 1984 against Ronald Reagan. He took U.S. Rep. Geraldine A. Ferraro as his vice presidential running mate, the first woman nominated for the position by a major party.
