New soccer fields will be good for Austin

Read our lips, no new taxes. On Monday night, the Austin City Council approved a construction bid for the first phase of three new soccer fields at Todd Park.
The fields will be in addition to the three that exist now and are scheduled to be completed in roughly 2012.
These fields are desperately needed.
The current fields aren’t big enough to accommodate the hundreds of park and rec, youth soccer and adult soccer players who use them during the spring and the summer.
The facility isn’t even big enough to hold a soccer tournament.
The new fields will be a great addition to Todd Park, not only for soccer players, but for Austin as well.
Perhaps the best part of the soccer field expansion is the cost to tax payers: Zero.
The project is being funded by a $250,000 Hormel Foundation grant.
The foundation has come through in a big way, one that is sure to help make Austin even better.
