Charles Schwartz

Charles John Schwartz, age 82 of Rose Creek, Minn. died Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 at Stewartville Care Center.
Charles was born Dec. 31, 1925 in Rose Creek to Charles and Elizabeth (Fink) Schwartz.
Charles attended St. Rest grade school in Windom Township and graduated from Austin High School in 1943. Charles purchased the homestead where he farmed his entire life. He drove ambulance and taxi in Austin and also drove bus for the Oak Grove Activity Center. He retired in 1989.
On Nov. 5, 1988, he married Roberta Jean Hale at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek. He was a member of St. Peter’s Parish in Rose Creek, where he served on the church council. Charles was a charter member of the Lady Slipper model A club.
In his spare time, he enjoyed, antique cars, playing the accordion, polka dancing, and playing cards. Charles was known to ride his bike to church on Sundays and to Austin to pick up his car from the repair shop.
Charlie loved God, his Allis Chalmers tractors, and his cat Garfield.
Charles is survived by his wife: Roberta “Bertie” Schwartz, Rose Creek, Minn.; sister: Rita (Lynn) DeRemer, Austin; brother: Lawrence Schwartz, Austin; nieces and nephews; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Charles and Helen Hale, Rochester, Minn..
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother, sister-in-law, and two brothers-in-law.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Father James Seitz and Father Clayton Haberman Officiating. Interment will be in the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Rose Creek. There will be a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Prayer Service on Tuesday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. and also at the church on Wednesday for one hour before the service.
The family prefers memorials to Mayo Clinic or St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
