Nine Austin High School wrestlers won matches at Faribault Saturday as the Packers defeated the Falcons in a dual meet 47-25.

Erick Power at 119 pounds; Brandon Holtorf at 135; Howie Underwood at 145; Michael Hirsch at 189; and Brett Kraemer at 215 all recorded pins for Austin.

“The meet was a really nice way to cap the pre-Christmas portion of our schedule,” said William Kinney, AHS wrestling coach. “I was very pleased with our all-around effort in this dual. There were a lot of distractions for our team this week, with the weather and what not, so it was good to get a win.”

Other winners for the Packers included Colin Sheehan at 112 pounds, who won by technical fall 20-3; Dylan Diekmann at 130 pounds, who won by technical fall 17-2; Bryce Zahradnik at 152 pounds, who won by decision; and Ethan Eggum at 160 pounds, who won by major decision 10-2.

Austin now has 40 pins in five competition dates this season, and going into the holiday break, 19 Packer wrestlers — out of 27 (both junior varsity and varsity) — boast winning records.
