It will be an exciting day for Austin Saturday. Mower County’s own Angela McDermott, Miss Minnesota 2008, will compete in the 2009 Miss America competition in Las Vegas that will be televised live on TLC beginning at 7 p.m.

Tonight, television viewers can vote online and through text messaging for their favorite contestants as part of TLC’s “Countdown to the Crown” reality show that begins at 9 p.m. The four contestants who receive the most votes will move on to the Top 15 in Saturday’s competition.

We are very proud of Angela, who graduated from Austin High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

We will be cheering her on and wish her all of the best on Saturday and in her future endeavors.
