It didn’t come easy, but the Hayfield girls basketball team won it’s eight straight contest to start the season with a 55-49 win over Stewartville (5-4 overall) in Hayfield Tuesday.

The Vikings (8-0 overall) led by just three late in the game, but hit free throws down the stretch to hold on. Hayfield had led by as many as 11, but Kiley Severson missed significant time with foul trouble.

“We didn’t play our best game of the year, so we’ll have to go back to the drawing board before playing at Winona Cotter Friday,” Hayfield head coach Fred Kindschy said “But a win is a win, and we’ll take it.”
