Dorthy E. Matter, 81
Dorthy Elaine Matter, 81, of Austin, died on Feb. 3, 2009 at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center in Austin.
She was born Aug. 6, 1927 to Herbert and Louise (Rasmussen) Rosenberg in St. Ansgar, Iowa where she grew and attended school. After graduating from high school in 1944, she attended Mankato State College. She worked at Austin Bowl and Charlie’s Lounge. She married Wesley Matter on Jan. 12, 1947 in St. Ansgar. They made their home in Austin. Wesley died on Feb. 2, 1998. A member of Crane Community Chapel, Dorthy enjoyed bowling, fishing, traveling, her friends and family.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis Matter, Fridley, Rick Matter, Austin; daughter, Lori (Rick) Conner, Bloomington, Minn.; grandson, Jason Conner, Bloomington; brother-in-law, Henry Matter, Denver, Colo.; three sisters-in-law, Marjorie (Rex) Howe, Independence, Mo., Kathleen (Kaljo) Pihelgas, Lyle, Beverly Haugland, Lyle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wesley; son, Stephen and her best friend, Liz Crawford.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 at Crane Community Chapel in Austin with Pastor Dale Christiansen officiating. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and at the church one hour prior to the service. The family prefers memorials to Crane Chapel, Salvation Army and Comforcare Good Samaritan Home in Austin. Worlein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
