It’s a day to get pampered

It’s nice to have a day out every now and then, a chance to forget your worries and focus on yourself.
And sometimes, it’s nice to bring a friend along for the ride.
The Riverland Community College School of Cosmetology held a Mother-Daughter Day at the Salon. From 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, the cosmetology school hosted mothers and their daughters who wanted to enjoy some time together and be pampered.
For a cost of $58, the special clients enjoyed hair styling and complete manicures from Riverland cosmetology students.
“It seems like a fun thing for a girls day out,” said Lisa Bellrichard, an administrative assistant at Riverland Community College and an organizer of the event. She was not only an organizer, but a client as well.
The salon was busy, seeing 14 clients in an hour and a half, with the students utilizing what they have learned at Riverland to make it an enjoyable afternoon for mothers and daughters.
“It was fun, even though I didn’t want to get my hair washed,” said Emily Brown, whose smile could be seen even with her hair covering her face.
“It was a gift my friend gave me for Christmas,” said Patty Lienau, while enjoying a manicure, “and I’m enjoying it.”
The Riverland Community College Cosmetology Program is a one-year curriculum, spanning 48 credit hours, which can begin in either the fall or spring semester. The courses rage from basic cosmetology practices to the fundamentals of business operation.
The Cosmetology Salon in the West Building on Riverland’s Campus is a full service salon open Wednesday through Friday this semester. The schedule is subject to change in the summer months and future semesters.
