Early Childhood and Family Education preschool registration for the 2009-10 year begins at the Austin Community Learning Center Feb. 23 for current students and March 2 for new pupils.

The preschool, part of Austin Public Schools, will have 54 openings for 4-year-olds, who attend school four days per week for 2.75 hours; and 64 slots for 3-year-olds, who attend school two days a week for 2 1/2 hours.

“It does fill quickly,” pointed out Amy Baskin, director of Community Education. “We have both morning and afternoon spots available; morning fills quicker.”

The cost for CLC preschool is $100 per month for 4-year-olds and $75 per month for 3-year-olds. Sliding fee and scholarships are available.

CLC’s preschool provides Kids Korner child care and includes licensed preschool teachers and a “significant parent involvement component,” Baskin said.

“Early intervention is great to prepare them for kindergarten,” she said.

Preschool begins Sept. 8 and ends May 27, 2010.

All students must be immunized before beginning school.
