The final buzzer came one second two early for the Grand Meadow girls basketball team as it was knocked out of the playoffs by Fillmore Central 57-56 Monday in Rochester Civic Center.
After the fourth seeded Falcons (15-12 overall) made one of two free throws to take a 57-56 lead with 30 seconds left, Grand Meadow missed a go-ahead shot but the Superlarks forced a turnover and Jessica Benson, who scored 41 points in her last game for GM, made a shot just after the buzzer had sounded.
No. 1 seeded GM came back from a 15-point deficit with nine minutes left to tie the game, but it couldn’t finish the job.
Fillmore Central scoring: Connor Nagle, 23; Katie Ristau, 15; Morgan Mensink, 10; Tricia Harstad, 6; Jessica Prinsen, 3
GM scoring: Benson, 41; Bailey Gomer, 7; Ashley Wilson, 6; Abbie Fay, 2
