Job resources can help in a tough economy

There’s no question we’re in a dire economic situation. Unemployment is on the rise nationally, with another nearly 700,000 jobs lost in February. Families are forced to cut back in every way possible, and the City of Austin is looking at deep cuts they don’t usually have to make.
Fortunately, there are some local resources that could prove valuable to those looking for work. Workforce Development, Inc. and Riverland Community College have joined forces to bring back their “New Directions” classes that offer assistance and advice to those who have been laid off. The next workshops will be held on March 24, April 28, May 26, June 23 and July 28 in Room C123 of the Austin Campus East Building.
In addition, a job fair will be held at the Mower County Senior Center on March 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for those 55 and older.
Getting through a recession isn’t easy, takes time and can require extra resources and help when someone loses their job.
The New Directions workshops and the senior center job fair are valuable offerings in an economic downturn. We encourage are readers to utilize them.
