The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) is investigating an accident that occurred at the Hormel Foods plant in Austin Feb. 26.

OSHA spokesperson James Honerman said Thursday that they “did respond to that investigation, and we have opened a safety investigation.”

Hormel Foods has released little about the nature of the accident, only to confirm that a worker was injured, was treated at Austin Medical Center and then transferred to a hospital in St. Paul.

OSHA and Hormel would not release the name of the victim.

Honerman said OSHA is still conducting interviews for safety and health information.

A typical investigation includes going on site to review the location of the accident and equipment training and also to interview co-workers. Honerman explained that once an OSHA investigation is opened, information cannot be released to the public until it is closed.
