Driver Improvement Associates will offer an eight-hour, two-session class for first-timers, and a four-hour, one-session class for repeat students this spring at Sterling State Bank of Austin.
The sessions are all held in the Sterling Shopping Center bank’s lower level, and coffee and cookies are provided during class times.
The driver improvement course for students establishes first-time eligibility for a 10 percent premium reduction to drivers 55 years and older.
Topics for the two four-hour sessions include: today’s driving environment, new laws, physical changes associated with aging and how to compensate, selecting a vehicle for safety and many other important topics.
Small group discussions and experienced instructors contribute to enjoyable, meaningful sessions.
No tests required, and all materials are supplied.
The sponsors will only offer the class one time during the year.
They will need a minimum of 15 students for the class.
The class will be offered from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 29 and 30.
A 55-Plus Refresher course will be offered in a four-hour session for those who have taken the eight-hour course.
It allows continued 10 percent insurance discounts each year for the next three-year period.
Classroom topics include up-to-date safe driving recommendations with emphasis on the aging factors typically associated with older drivers (vision, response time, etc.).
Experienced instructors present the materials.
No tests required and all materials are supplied.
The next class will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 17.
Future sessions will be offered May 13, June 25, July 15, Aug. 18, Sept. 15, Oct. 22, Nov. 17 and Dec. 16.
Class times will vary between morning and afternoon sessions.
The classes are sponsored by the Sterling Silver Club at Sterling State Bank.
Class fees are $20 for members and $25 for non-members for the eight-hour class and $18 for members and $21 for non-members for the four-hour class.
