Two area wrestlers set to wrestle for third place

Two area wrestlers will wrestle for third place Saturday at the Minnesota State wrestlng tournament at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Austin’s Michael Hirsch will wrestle in the 189-pound fifth place match Saturday. Hirsch (37-5 overall) will face off against Matt Spoden (41-6 overall) of Saint Cloud Apollo.
On Friday, Hirsch lost an 11-5 to Cody Burbach of Osseo.
Austin’s Howie Underwood had his season come to an end after dropping a 5-1 decision to William Baker (39-7 overall) of Spring Lake Park in the wrestlebacks. Underwood, a 145-pound junior, went 2-2 at state and 31-11 overall on the season.
Class ‘A’
Southland’s Matt Schroeder will wrestle for third place after beating Devin Scott of Holdingford Friday. Schroeder (41-1 overall) will take on Jessie Regalado (31-9 overall) of Jackson County Central.
At 152-pounds Hayfield’s Mark Evjen will wrestle for third Saturday after dropping a 10-6 decision to Tyler Yule (39-6 overall) of Medford in the semifinals Friday.
Evjen (32-10 overall) beat Collin Jergenson (39-2 overall) 7-3 overtime decision. He will face Jake Braaten (36-5 overall) of Bertha/Hewitt/Verndale.
Class ‘AA’
Carter Brandt (31-12 overall) of Grand Meadow/LeRoy/Ostrander/Kingsland had his season end on a 16-0 loss to Jordan Linn of Foley in the wrestlebacks.
