Donna Welsh is Mower County’s Employee of the Month for March.
The selection was unanimous.
Welsh was honored at Tuesday’s Mower County Board of Commissioners meeting.
The plaudits started with Mower County Attorney Kristen Nelsen, who nominated Welsh for the award.
More accolades came from Steve King, director of Mower County Correctional Services, and Val Kruger, payroll and benefits specialist. The latter said Welsh is “extremely knowledgeable” about county government finances.
Dave Hillier, Third District county commissioner, and county coordinator Craig Oscarson also praised the finance director.
Oscarson said, “Donna has been a God-send to county government” and predicted there will be “greater things to come” from Welsh, during the next biennium as the county grapples with the expected state budget cuts’ impact on Mower County.
In addition, Welsh helped facilitate the county’s sale of $10 million in lease revenue purchase bonds to fund construction of the new Mower County Justice Center.
Welsh was hired to be Mower County’s first finance director in February 2003.
The county commissioners created the new position after an outside examination of county finances and how they were handled revealed a finance director could add much to the widening spectrum of county finances.
