LETTER: Tax demonstration day successful, peaceful

Published 10:11 am Friday, April 17, 2009

On April 15, more than 100 people gathered on the west side of the Mower County courthouse.  This was a peaceful demonstration unlike many other demonstrations that I have seen on television.

Concerns about the direction our government is taking our country were expressed and applauded.

Across the country this was repeated several hundred times with much larger crowds.

The demonstrations that were portrayed on national TV during the Republican Convention sickened me.

The demonstrations on April 15 showed that in America we can peacefully differ with a president. This is our right and duty. This was a great start, but it will die unless we continue sending the message.

We must repeat this often to ensure that this message is heard.

The 2010 election cycle is near at hand, and these voices can be heard.

I would like to thank Cindy Stevens for her hard work and leadership organizing this event.
