The Luther College Norsemen will be presenting a concert at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin Sunday, April 26 at 4 p.m. Four Norsemen are from the 2008 graduating class at Austin High School: Thomas Gerber, Spencer Green, Will Hagan and Jon Koch.
Norsemen is one of seven choral ensembles at Luther College with more than 500 singers on campus. Considered one of the largest and finest first-year men’s choirs in the country, the Norsemen are comprised of men selected each year by audition. They perform on campus for worship services and various events, participate in the annual Christmas at Luther concert and Dorian Vocal Festival, and present a spring concert with Aurora, Luther’s first-year women’s choir.
Norsemen have been honored to perform at several regional conventions of the American Choral Directors Association, as well other festivals and worship services in the Upper-midwest. The Norsemen’s current CD recording is “Oh, Sing Jubilee!”
Timothy Peter has led the Norsemen since 1991. Peter, head of the music department and professor of Music at Luther College, conducts the Collegiate Chorale (90 juniors and seniors, mixed voices) and the Norsemen (95 first-year men). He has recently conducted All-State choirs and festivals in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin, and abroad in Germany, Namibia (Africa), Oman (Middle-East), South Africa and South Korea.
Peter holds degrees from Luther College and the University of Arizona. His wife, Sandra, is also on the music faculty at Luther College.
