Austin girls golf team advances at Section meet

The Austin girls golf team advanced at the Section 1AAA meet Thursday in Cannon Valley.
With the second day of the meet set to start next Tuesday in Cannon Valley, the Packers are in fifth place with a score of 365. Northfield is in first with a 347, with the top team advancing to state.
Catherine Wagner led all golfers with a score of 76. She finished the front nine with a 34. She birdied on holes seven, eight and nine and had four birdies on the day.
The closest score to Wagner was Faribault’s Jackie Johnson of Faribault, who shot an 80.
“The back nine is a lot harder then the front and it showed in all the girls’ scores,” Austin head coach Carissa Gabrielson. “Overall, the girls were very happy with today’s results at Cannon Golf Club. I hope this momentum continues into the second day next Tuesday.”
Lauren Stasi had a career-low score of 94 and Ingrid Baudler shot a season low of 100.
Alex Larson shot a 95, but improved her score by 13 strokes in the last nine holes she played.
