Last year, he was happy to be there. This year, he’d be happy to win it.

Austin golfer Drew Osier has his hopes set high as he prepares for his second straight trip to the Class ‘AAA’ state boys golf meet, which will take place in Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minn. Tuesday, June 2 and Wednesday, June 3.

“I’m more confident than last year because I know what I’m getting into. This year should be fun,” said Osier, a senior. “Honestly, I really want to win it. I think my game’s ready, and I think I’m ready mentally to go up to the challenge and win it.”

Osier, who tied for 56th at state last season, is coming off a big time performance a the Section 1AAA meet, where he recovered from a triple bogey to play out the rest of the back nine at even PAR.

“I learned something about myself that day, that I can just battle back from bad holes,” said Osier, who tied for second at sections. “It’s a big thrill (to go to state). I’ve been dreaming about this since seventh grade and now I get to do it for a second time.”

Austin head coach Will Pazurek said Osier has always had the skills to compete at a high level, but now his confidence is catching up to his abilities. Last year, Osier had some bright spots at state, and if he can stay consistent, he could be in for a big weekend.

“If he has a good two days, he could do real well,” Pazurek said. “It’ll be a lot of fun to watch.”

Having experience at Bunker Hills will be a big boost as he will know how to play certain holes.

“I’ll know where to hit and where to miss it. I’ll be a lot more comfortable on the course,” he said. “I’m just going to play the golf course. Everyone has to play the same course and I manage the course the way I know how, I’ll be fine.”

Pazurek said it has been a joy to watch Osier grow from a seventh grader who could barely break 90, to a senior who’s now trying to break 70.

“It’s been fun watching him grow and develop through the years,” he said. “He’s improved a lot.”

Osier will play golf at Central College in Pella, Iowa next year.

The class ‘AAA’ boys will tee off at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday
