Austin Area Art Center member Rayna Gasteiger of St. Ansgar, Iowa, is among the winning artists of the 2009 Skyway Art Competition conducted by the Rochester Downtown Alliance.

The artists selected receive a one-time award of $750 each to cover the cost of paint and any other installation materials.

Any remaining funds can be kept by the artists.

Murals will be painted directly on the glass of six prominently located skyways in downtown Rochester, and will be viewed by not only the Rochester community, but also people from around the world.

The winning artists will install works during the week of May 18 and attend a media event June 18. Gasteiger is a senior in St. Ansgar High School and plans to attend college as an art major.
