Upgrades needed

Woodson Kindergarten Center is fundraising for new playground equipment appropriately sized for its enrollment and age range.
Built in the 1990s when the building was home to Early Childhood and Family Education, the equipment is appropriate for about 25 children ages 3-5.
Woodson, which opened as an all-day, everyday kindergarten four years ago, has between 375 and 390 students each year.
About 100-125 use the playground at a time.
“It is fine, we just need to upgrade and add some additional equipment,” principal Jayne Gibson said. “We’re fortunate we have a lot of grassy area.”
Woodson currently has one play structure with three slides and a bridge; a row of swings; two monkey bars; another play structure with a bridge; and spring riders. School staff have been soliciting for donations in the community.
The school is fundraising for the first phase of the project, which would include replacing a slide that was vandalized last year with graffiti and a swing set. The project would total about $5,000.
The second phase would include additional equipment and basketball hoops totaling $10,000.
