A 34-year-old Austin man appeared in court Tuesday on assault charges for allegedly hitting another man in the face with a chair leg.
Daren Ioanis faces one count of second degree assault, a felony, and a lesser charge of fifth degree assault for allegedly hitting a 28-year-old man with a broken-off chair leg during an altercation early Sunday at 1202 Ninth St. N.E.
After the incident, police found Ioanis upstairs at the house passed out, and he appeared drunk. He was verbally offensive to officers when taken away, according to a police report.
Ioanis also allegedly punched another man, 20, in the nose when he tried to separate Ioanis from the 28-year-old victim.
The victim was bleeding heavily when police arrived but refused medical treatment beyond a few gauze pads.
Ioanis is in Mower County custody with bail set at $50,000, or $10,000 with conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court again on July 30.
