A Florida man was sentenced in federal court Tuesday for involvement in a Minnesota prostitution ring, which included a brothel in Austin.

Oscar Rogelio Hisep-Roman, 33, of Dover, Fla., will face 28 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release for conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States.

Hisep-Roman and Marisol Ramirez, 39, from Richfield, are the primary defendants in the far-ranging case. Ramirez was sentenced in June to 30 months in prison and three years of supervised release, and 22 others have been sentenced as well.

One man still awaits sentencing.

According to plea agreements, the two admitted that they ran a large scale prostitution business from 2006 to April 2007. They said they brought in prostitutes from other states and countries to work at eight different brothels.

The two also admitted that they recruited and employed a number of people to run the brothels. Their duties included transporting prostitutes, collecting money and promoting the operation through business cards.

“These sentencings send the message that this is far from a victimless crime,” U.S. Attorney Frank Magill said in a press release. “This conspiracy of operating brothels is an intolerable crime.”

Among those previously sentenced, Miguel Isep-Roman, 29, from Edina, received a 27-month sentence in July 2008 along with two years of supervised release for running a brothel on the 1100 block of 10th Avenue SW in Austin, according to a court complaint.

Isep-Roman distributed business cards advertising the brothel, and transported prostitutes to and from Austin, according to the complaint.

Also involved with the Austin brothel was Keila Villanueva, 39, of Edina.

She was sentenced in September to five months in prison and two years supervised release.
