Hard work and community support have paid off for officials and students at Woodson Kindergarten Center.
The center, as reported by the Herald’s Katie Johnson in today’s edition, began soliciting donations last spring to renovate its outdated playground facility.
The fundraising drive raised $10,060, more than double the center’s goal of $5,000, meaning upgrades will be ready this fall.
The funds included both individual donations, as well as fundraisers through Applebee’s and Burger King. Other contributors were parent-teacher organizations, the Austin Public Education Foundation, Accentra Credit Union, Godfather’s Pizza, the Austin Jaycees and an Austin High School youth leadership group.
Up-to-date and safe facilities for our students are a crucial part of education and with state budget cuts, these upgrades can sometimes take a back burner to other needs.
Woodson officials took the matter into their own hands, however, by holding fundraisers and getting the word out about the need for the project.
Their efforts paid off, and our students will be able to enjoy the new equipment beginning this fall.
