A 26-year-old Austin man reported that he was stabbed three times early Sunday and robbed of $3,000 while trying to enter his apartment on Fourth Avenue Northeast.
Officers responded around 4 a.m. to a report of a man banging on a door in the 1500 block of Fourth Street Northeast yelling for help. The man was bleeding from three stab wounds — one to his chest, and one each to his right and left leg. The man appeared weak from blood loss when he was found, Lt. John Mueller said.
A police report indicated that he was taken to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. A hospital spokeswoman said no records on the victim were available Monday.
The man told police he was trying to enter his apartment when two unidentified men approached him, according to the report.
He said he was stabbed and also struck with a baseball bat before the two victims left. The man then stumbled to the Fourth Street location, leaving some blood along the way.
Witnesses told police they had seen the victim in an altercation prior to the attack, but it’s unclear if that was a related incident, Mueller said. No weapons were used during that fight.
Police are investigating possible suspects in the attack.
