A 4-year-old Austin girl was struck by a car Sunday and airlifted to a Rochester hospital.
The incident occurred near the 1400 block of Oakland Place Southeast at around 3:40 p.m. According to the 49-year-old Austin woman driving the vehicle, the girl darted out into the road and was hit by the left front end of the car.
The driver said she attempted to brake but was unable to stop fast enough. Initial police investigation supports that claim, according to a police report.
The girl, who was alone at the time, was removed from the road and tended to by people in the area. She had a bump on her head and a two-inch cut below her elbow, according to the report.
The woman and a passenger, her 19-year-old daughter, stayed in their vehicle until police arrived. Both were visibly shaken by the incident, according to the report.
St. Marys Hospital said Monday morning the girl was still there and is in fair condition.
