Dale Beckel

Dale Allen Beckel, 72, of Austin, died Aug. 25, 2009 at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, Minn.
Dale was born June 10, 1937 in Milwaukee, Wis. to Walter and Laura (Bornfleth) Beckel. He graduated from Austin High School in 1955. After trade school he worked for Wagner Construction. Dale was also a co-founder of the Joseph Co. He was a carpenter.
On June 7, 1958 Dale married Geraldine Ann Halloran at St. Mary’s Church in Chatfield. Dale continued to be active in the community through his work with Habitat for Humanity, Austin Hockey Association and his church. His participation at Queen of Angels consisted of laying its foundation, actively serving as a lector and participating on its boards and functions.
Survivors include his wife, Geri Beckel, Austin; children: Kathy (Doug) Hafften, Princeton, Robert (Jean) Beckel, Savage, Gregory (Gretchen) Beckel, Austin, Mark Beckel (Peggy Callahan), Hinckley, Kevin (Denise) Beckel, Savage, Kellie (Andrew) Roetter, Winona; grandchildren: David (Annie) Porttiin, Evan (Nikki) Porttiin, Jacob Beckel, Lisa Beckel, Joe Hafften, Shannon Beckel, Emily Beckel, Tori Beckel, Kayla Beckel, Megan Beckel, Erik Beckel, Ashley Roetter; great-grandchildren: Lilly, Kylie and Logan; and a brother, Robert (Lorraine) Beckel, Kellogg, Minn.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Laura Beckel; stepfather, Joe Beckel; and one grandchild.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, 2009 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper, Father Paul Nelson and Father Russ Scepanik officiating. There will be a 7 p.m. wake service on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Kidney Foundation or the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester.
