Mower County Fair results, Creative Arts

The Creative Arts Building was full for the Creative Arts Competition at the 2009 Mower County Fair. More than 200 exhibitors plus area nursing homes provided more than 1,000 entries for the event, superintendent Virginia Bissen said.

Scrap Booking
Sponsored by Sterling Drug
There were 45 entries in this contest. The winner in each division was given a $10 gift certificate from Sterling Main Street. The winners were: Adult Division, Kelly Kleven; Youth Division, Julia Heimer; and Children, Lane Canny.
Lego Contest
There were 22 entries in this contest. Perkins Family Restaurant awarded a $10 gift certificates to Eric Maier and Wiatte Pudenz.
Gingerbread Cake Contest
Sponsored by Applebee’s
There were 14 entries in the adult contest. Winners were: first place, Ardis Jensen, $10 gift certificate from Applebee’s, and second place, Linda Enstad, $5 gift certificate from Applebee’s.
The youth contest had three entries. Winners were: Hannah Burkhart, $10 gift certificate from Applebee’s, and second place, Nathan Stevens, $5 gift certificate from Applebee’s.
Sugar Cookies Made with Butter
Sponsored by Mower County American Dairy Association
There were 25 entries in this contest. Judy Gerlach won the contest and was awarded a gift basket of dairy products from the ADA. Each entrant also received a pound of butter from the ADA.
Red Star Yeast Contest
Each entrant in the baking division received a package of yeast and coupon from Red Star. Gloria Trom won this contest and received an apron, flexible cutting board and measuring cup donated by Red Star Yeast.
Preserved Foods Division
There were several entries of canned goods. Super Fresh Produce awarded $5 gift certificates to Millie Westland, Irene Wiesjhan, Carol Tracy and Cindy Stevens.
Jam and Jelly Contest
There were 16 entries in this contest. Millie Westland received a dozen canning jars for winning this contest.
Minnesota State Fair
The Minnesota State Fair sponsors a special contest for the champion quilt from county fairs throughout the state. Mower County will be represented by Phyllis Lastine with her beautiful quilt made of 1930s reproduction fabrics.
